Privacy / local-first backup

Privacy policy

A bounded, local-first backup configuration for one account owner.

Scope

This policy covers a personal rclone configuration used only to back up the account owner's own files to that same owner's Google Drive. It is not a hosted backup service.

Data used

The configuration uses Google OAuth 2.0 solely to read and write files in the Google Drive account that authorizes it. Its access token is stored only on that local computer, in rclone's configuration. It is never sent to a BrierStudios server, its operator, or any third party.

Local encryption

Before upload, rclone encrypts both file contents and file names on the local computer.

Sharing

No one. This backup configuration has no intermediary server, analytics, telemetry, advertising, or sale of data. The only transfer is between the local computer and Google Drive, governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Retention and revocation

Files remain in Google Drive for as long as the account owner chooses and can be deleted from that account at any time. OAuth access can be revoked at Google Account permissions.
